    PROVIDENCE

    The frenzied immigration debate that has engulfed Rhode Island politics and produced more legislative bills here than in almost any other state, ended with a thud over the weekend when a final proposal to crack down on illegal immigration collapsed in the waning hours of the 2008 Assembly session.

    I am actually for workers compensation for illegal aliens but it should be split with the government. The illegal aliens should be compensated for their earning potential lost but at rates in their country of legal residence. The company that hired them should pay the same amount as were their employee legal and the difference should go to the government.

    Dear Mayor, City Council, and Chief Of Police,

    It seems that you have all forgotten that you were elected to serve the CITIZENS OF PROVIDENCE, NOT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

    Somewhere along the way, your priorities have gone askew.

    Citizens are absolutely sick, and tired, of illegal immigrants, who have absolutely no right to be in our United States, let alone taking jobs that rightfully belong to Americans.

    The last thing Providence, or Rhode Island, needs, is a growing population of illegal immigrants leaching off of American taxpayers.

    The average illegal immigrant costs taxpayers over $9,000 a year. We can't have poverty level illegal immigrants, attending our schools, all at the expense of taxpayers, which poverty level illegal immigrants aren't.

    Somehow, the Providence City Council has lost any sensibility in this matter.

    Again, you are all elected to serve the citizens, not the illegal immigrants.
