Workplace raids ensnare kids in net, too

For every two illegal immigrants arrested in a workplace raid, at least one child feels the effect, according to a study released Wednesday.

In some cases, children spend at least one night without a parent and are handed off in a mad scramble to babysitters or relatives, says the study, conducted by the Urban Institute on behalf of the National Council of La Raza, a Hispanic civil rights organization.

The study focuses on three large workplace raids: Two on Dec. 12, 2006, at Swift & Company meat-packing plants in Greeley, Colo., and Grand Island, Neb.; and one on March 6, 2007, at the Michael Bianco leather goods plant in New Bedford, Mass.

In those raids, 506 children had at least one parent arrested, the study says. At the Colorado site, two-thirds of the children were U.S. citizens. In all, 912 workers were arrested.

“We don’t question the fact that our laws need to be enforced. We do question how we enforce those laws,â€

If I could prevent something bad from happening to my child, I would.

All these people whining about their children have been receiving instructions on how to farm them out to people(throw out the anchor), if they get arrested and put into the deportation process. They know what they are doing and they are willfully putting their children through this. They have no room to complain. They have set up this situation and are waiting for it to happen. If they were really concerned about their children and what they might experience, when they are arrested and deported then they need to just get their kids and pack up and leave before that happens.

Their actions show what is important to them. Staying in America illegally and breaking the law is more important than protecting their children from the traum and experience they will endure, if they are arrested for immigration violations. The illegals are really complaining about making the right choice and doing the right thing and they are once again, using their exploited children as an excuse to break the law.

I don't feel sorry for the illegal alien(s) or the children they have drug into this. They did this to their children and they are just going to have to deal with it. Not my fault, not my problem.

Irresponsible, foolish parents can not be reformed and we can't compensate and excuse them for their bad decisions.

These parents can prevent what will happen to the children, if they get deported. The parents are 100% in control of the situation and they are choosing to let their children go through this. Shame on them.

Pull up the anchors and set sail.

This is where the churches could be immensely helpful in preparing the families for eventual arrest and deportation. They could counsel with the family about their options prior to arrest. They could set up networks to immediately move in and care for the children when the parents are arrested. And finally they could assist in making arrangements to reunite the family in their home country. It would reduce the fear and anxiety of the children if they knew in advance that a plan is in place to reunite with their family.

These efforts would be far more laudable than expending their resources and energy in condemning the U.S. Government for executing its lawful right to arrest and deport illegal immigrants.

If the churches are simply going to be a group whose purpose is to thwart the U.S. Constitution they should so name themselves. It is hypocritical to continue the rhetoric in the guise of sympathy toward separated families. It is within their power to abate these cases and if they choose not to do it they should just shut up.
