Defendant in Robert Rosas death arraigned today in federal court

Marcos Rodriguez-Perez, one of five people charged in connection with the slaying of U.S. Border Patrol agent Robert Rosas was arraigned today in San Diego federal court.

Rodriguez-Perez, 22, was arrested by Mexican authorities on April 11 in Tijuana, Baja California and extradicted from Mexico on Thursday, according to a press statement released today. The defendant was escorted by FBI special agents and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations unit.

Rosas, a lifelong El Centro resident, was shot and killed July 23, 2009 while on-duty and on patrol near Campo. Authorities allege Rodriguez-Perez and four other suspects were involved in killing Rosas for the purpose of robbing him. Rosas was shot multiple times by, authorities allege, Rodriguez-Perez and other suspects that night.
