Hit and Run Suspect Caught at Nogales Port of Entry

Nogales, Ariz., – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working on joint operations with Border Patrol agents in Nogales, Ariz., arrested a fugitive who was eluding charges involving a fatal hit and run traffic accident in Fresno, Calif.

The alleged fugitive was attempting to leave the United States on Thursday. Officers discovered that the man, a citizen of Mexico, was in the country illegally. Further examination by officers revealed a warrant for his arrest in California.

After verifying his identity and confirming that he was the subject of the warrant, officers turned the man over to the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Office for further processing.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
