EAGLE PASS, Texas — Authorities say two convicts who escaped a Louisiana prison last October were recaptured while trying to re-enter the U.S. from Mexico.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement Tuesday that the two men couldn't produce identification documents at the Eagle Pass, Texas, entry point Monday. Officers using a law enforcement database found the men's real names and that they were wanted on escape warrants.

Andrew Paul Knecht, 27, and Joseph Lucas Persilver, 30, were turned over to the Maverick County sheriff's office and face extradition to Louisiana.
Knecht was serving five years for forgery and simple battery. Persilver was serving a two-year sentence for second-degree battery. Both are from Baton Rouge.
