Ark. lawmaker tries again with immigrant tuition

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A lawmaker says she's filing legislation that would grant in-state tuition to illegal immigrants, reviving a measure she brought before the Legislature four years ago.

Democratic Sen. Joyce Elliott of Little Rock told The Associated Press on Wednesday that she planned to file legislation that would grant in-state tuition to any Arkansas student who attended high school in the state for at least three years and had a high school diploma.

Elliott's original measure in 2005 would have allowed the schools to offer both college scholarships and in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants. The bill passed the House, but failed in the Senate despite removal of the scholarship provision.

Elliott said her proposal would only grant in-state tuition, not scholarships, to illegal immigrants.

This is discriminatory against legal students and Americans from out of state that want to study in Arkansas. Why should those that do not belong in the first place be given special consideration? And don't give me the crap they are here to better their lives, as so are those that bothered to be here legally with student visas and the citizens hoping to study at the state's colleges. They don't need any competition for the precious seats in any university, especially from those that believe they are due because they managed to evade our laws. Get a grip, lady.
