LOS ANGELES — Organizers say several large Cinco de Mayo festivals in the West won't be affected by worries over swine flu, despite a similar event being canceled in Chicago.
Martha Ceja of MCG Entertainment said Wednesday that Los Angeles residents aren't so worried that they would skip the celebration this weekend on historic Olvera Street, a popular tourist attraction in downtown Los Angeles.
Organizers for other Cinco de Mayo events say they will also proceed after consulting with city officials and health organizations. Those events include a celebration this weekend in Santa Ana, Calif., and another at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston.
The Mexican Civic Society of Illinois on Wednesday canceled its event in Chicago because of flu concerns.
