Police have captured 18 suspected illegal immigrants who came ashore today in the North End.

The 15 adults and three children arrived on a 30-foot cabin cruiser, apparently from the Bahamas, police said.

They came ashore in the 1000 block of North Ocean Boulevard.

A boat captain also was in custody.

Police began apprehending the immigrants around 2:30 p.m., and they were detained in a shaded staging area near the Palm Beach Country Club and given bottled water to drink.

A road crew worker who speaks Creole volunteered to translate as authorities interviewed subjects to gather information.

U.S. Border Patrol agents were on the scene to take the suspects into custody.

Palm Beach police were assisted by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard’s Lake Worth Inlet station.
