Deportation ordered for Egyptian students

OMAHA, Neb. A federal judge in Omaha, Nebraska, has ordered the deportation of three Egyptian students who were among eleven at the center of a nationwide search last month.

The three admitted that they violated immigration laws and asked a judge last week to allow them to return home voluntarily.

In today's ruling, Judge James Fujimoto (foo-gee-MOE'-toe) denied that request. He cited the students' short amount of time in the United States and their decision to flee immediately upon entering the country.

The students' lawyer, Amy Peck, says she's not sure if they would appeal.

In early August, federal authorities issued a nationwide alert after eleven of 17 students from Mansoura University in Egypt did not show up for a month-long exchange program in Bozeman, Montana.

The three students ordered deported today were arrested in Des Moines.
