MCALLEN -A chase that began in Sullivan City and ended in McAllen on Thursday reached speed over 100 MPH. Multiple police departments were involved in the chase with the PT Cruiser.

Six people were inside the car.

The driver was allegedly smuggling five illegal immigrants at the time of the chase and crash.

Emergency personnel used the Jaws of Life to extract the injured passengers. The driver ran from the crash site but was caught shortly after.

All were taken to the hospital.

Sullivan City Police Chief Miguel Martinez said he has seen at least 100 pursuits in the last 10 years.

"Sometimes they end in a good way, when a driver just pulls over and runs to the wooded area, just leaves the car there, or they'll just stop. In this case, it's the worst case scenario that you want to deal with," said the police chief.

He said the officers reached 90 MPH during the chase, and the driver was traveling at least 15 or 20 MPH faster than that.
The driver is expected to face multiple charges.
