SC: Duncan Hunter has dropped two top South Carolina adviser

(SCROLL DOWN PAST STORY ON OBAMA)

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter has dropped two top South Carolina advisers a week after they were appointed because of their inflammatory statements about immigrants and religious minorities.

Hunter spokesman Roy Tyler confirmed Thursday that former GOP lieutenant governor candidate Henry Jordan and Horry County Auditor Lois Eargle would no longer serve as campaign co-chairs.

Eargle said the California congressman's decision was disappointing.

"I am so disgusted with politicians who do not have the backbone to stand up for the concerns of the American people," Eargle said in a statement provided to The Associated Press.

Eargle, speaking Feb. 22 at a news conference, said an illegal immigrant with three children came to her office the day before asking for free legal help for an abused child.

"I told her the best thing for her to do was to get back to Mexico," Eargle said then.

Tyler said Thursday that those words "in 26 years of service would not cross Congressman Hunter's lips."

The following day Eargle said she was misquoted, but a recording of the news conference proved otherwise. Eargle said she meant to say the woman's boyfriend had abused her, and the woman came for legal help to get him out of jail.

Meanwhile, Jordan, who ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 1996 and last year, said he thinks Hunter did the right thing by severing their campaign relationship. Jordan said he didn't want a comment he made disparaging Muslims and Buddhists while he was a state school board member in 1997 to hamper Hunter's campaign.

Tyler said it was "not wise to continue the association."

Sounds like Hunter is trying to stay politically correct, but personally I don't see the need. Unless I misunderstood what was said here, I don't see anything wrong with it.

The boyfriend abuses her....he goes to jail....then she comes and asks for help getting him out!!!??? Ice should have been called. This is so ridiculous. They handled it better than I would have, for sure.

I think it was a wise move. Hunter's not running for town alderman, he's running for President of the United States. If I was him, I wouldn't want any potential loose cannons on my campaign either. The release of these folks doesn't mean his position has changed, just means he's a smart man. Loose cannons have a bad habit of going off at the wrong time.

I don't see anything wrong with what she said either. This is confusing. If the woman had shown up with the child at a police station or a hospital then of course that response would be completely inappropriate and wrong in my opinion.

If you knew a child who was being abused you would go to the police and or a hosptial with the child. By doing that the child would get automatic, immediate free legal help.

Why would one seek legal help for an abused child? She should plain and simply report it, then the the child would be given the help he or she needs.

    This story is rather confusing.

Maybe there are more details which we need to know. I think Hunter is correct. I want a president to enforce immigration laws, but I also want one who would never turn their back on a child in an emergency or at a time of great need. Children are helpless.

However, children of illegal aliens should be deported with their parents, but in an emergency, we must take care of a child who is helpless in being able to care of him or herself. I wouldn't want a president who would even question that for a second. My tendency is to agree with his decision, since I do not know all of the details.

The more insanity I read, the more I fear anything resembling "a pathway to citizenship".

Is anything ever their fault, personal responsibility or problem for them to deal with? If amnesty is granted we will become the babysitters/guardians of co-dependant adults with the mentality and capability of 3 year olds and procreating at the sound of speed. Its no wonder the Mexican government provides them with specific directions to achieve crossing our borders.

And I'm not talking about cases such as Elvira's in the church, and I'm not talking about passing something as wrong as the Dream Act......I'm talking about extreme emergencies involving children where they are ill, hurt or abused.

BTW, I think taking children into the U.S. illegally is a definite form of child neglect and child abuse. When Americans break laws with their children present or involving them they go to jail.

    This is confusing
Legal I think it is too and perhaps troubling. Is there more to this story? From the reaction I am not not clear at all what Lois Eargle relationship was/is to the illegal immigrant. Is she responsible for this woman's children? Or was she responsible to perform a service for this illegal alien in her job that she did not do?

Are they holding her responsible for something she has no responsibility for? If this is only because she said "you should go home" then this is major PC BS!
