Sara Jahzeel Gonzalez, 21 years old, and Maria Gloria Hernandez-Castillo, 40 years old, both of Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, were arrested when they attempted to extort the roommate (victim) of a Chicago man being held in Juarez, Mexico.
The victim’s roommate had traveled to Juarez in February but was then held captive. The victim was contacted and asked to raise money to get her roommate released. The victim flew to El Paso March 24, 2007, and met with Gonzalez and Gonzalez’ mother, Hernandez-Castillo, to exchange a payment in return for her roommate’s release. The victim’s roommate was later released in Juarez and walked back to El Paso.
If convicted, Gonzalez and Hernandez-Castillo could face up to 20 years in prison.

There is no way in heck I would ever venture over the Mexican border.
I have heard lots of stories about kidnappings for ransom being the norm there. There is no way I would ever allow my child to go to spring break in Acapulco. Travel at your own risk
