Oceanside CA. moves closer to E-Verify requirement

Oceanside moves closer to E-Verify requirement

OCEANSIDE — Businesses looking to do business with the city of Oceanside will soon be required to use E-Verify, the City Council decided this week.

The council voted 3-1 to prepare a resolution that would require contractors to use the U.S. Homeland Security system that verifies the legal residency status of employees. Councilwoman Esther Sanchez voted against the measure, which was proposed by Councilman Gary Felien. Mayor Jim Wood left the meeting prior to the vote, but signaled he would support Felien’s request.

The ciity attorney will draft the resolution, which the council will vote for at future meeting.

According to the Department of Homeland Security website, E-Verify is a free Internet-based system available to all employers.

The use of E-Verify has sparked controversy in other cities and municpalities where officials have mandated that all businesses — not just those looking for government contracts — use the system to verify their employees’ residency status. Felien, however, said he was not interested in “doing the federal government’s job.â€

Good for Oceanside. Anything that helps American citizens get jobs should be encouraged.

Re: Oceanside CA. moves closer to E-Verify requirement

Sanchez can take her people back to Mexico if they don't want to abide by our laws! Illegals and their anchors are NOT our responsibility to support! E-Verify needs to be forced to EVERY business with employees, not just contractors ! Once businesses are held accountable for their illegal hirings, Americans can get back to work! Along with manditory E-varify, the next hurdle to cross is cutting off Welfare benefits to illegal parents. Besides jobs, it is the BIGGEST "golden ticket" prize awarded to the anchor's mamas! Cut them off from jobs and Welfare, and we will be able to get back on our feet! GROW SOME BALLZ AND GET IT DONE!!!

Sanchez, however, said adding the requirement would be overly burdensome to businesses and could cost the city money if staff time was needed to verify if contractors were using the system. Several speakers also criticized the plan, arguing that the city was overtepping its boundaries and should leave the enforcement of immigration issues to the federal government.
    excuses, excuses, excuses.
ms. sanchez, your stupid moron. running an e-verify check is free.

as for the speakers who spoke, did we really expect them to say anything beside it being a federal issue. thats all these losers ever say
