Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas reached a milestone in his fight against illegal immigration after a 22-year old illegal immigrant was sentenced to jail time and probation Monday.
The man was arrested by the sheriff's office for violating the state's human smuggling statute. On Wednesday, Thomas explained why this case is significant.
"We now have 750 convictions under this statute," he said. "That is a milestone in its own right and I think that it makes clear this office's commitment to enforcing the law, to fighting illegal immigration through the legal tools at our disposal."
Thomas said these prosecutions represent victories in the fight to control illegal immigration in Phoenix.
