CLIFTON — Investigators found the car used to transport a 12-year-old Paterson girl to a city apartment where she was videotaped while two men raped her, police said Thursday.

Detective Sgt. Robert Bracken found the car at 5 p.m. Wednesday at 23rd Avenue and Kipp Place in Paterson, said Detective Capt. Robert Rowan. Investigators got a search warrant and were scouring the vehicle for evidence Thursday.

Detectives received information about the 2002 Chevy Impala two men are accused of using to take the girl from her Paterson home to a Clifton basement where she was forced to drink alcohol and raped by each man while one videotaped the attacks. One of the men, Leonardo Quintero, 20, of Paterson, drove the girl home, possibly sexually assaulting her again, police said.

Police are still looking for Quintero who drove to Miami where he hopped on a flight to Lima, Peru, Tuesday night. Canpolat Cankurt, 19, of Clifton, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday before state Superior Court Presiding Criminal Division Judge Marilyn C. Clark in Paterson to charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, luring and enticing a child, kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child and offering or serving alcohol to an underage person.

Clark raised Cankurt’s bail from $350,000 to $500,000. He is being held on that amount at the Passaic County Jail.

MOD NOTE: Though not directly identified as an IA I believe the FACT Quintero fled to Peru qualifies this articles inclusion in the News forum.
