Opposing sides in immigration fight protest in Cicero
CICERO, Ill. Critics and supporters of day laborers held opposing protests today in the Chicago suburb of Cicero.
Cicero town spokesman Dan Proft says a couple dozen opponents of illegal immigration -- mostly from the Chicago Minuteman Project -- gathered on a sidewalk outside a Home Depot store.
Proft says about 100 day laborers and their advocates gathered nearby to show their support of immigration.
Police kept the two groups separate. Proft says the protests were peaceful and no arrests were made.
The protest by the Minutemen and other opponents of illegal immigration was one of dozens planned across the country over the weekend to bring attention to the issue.
