Tempe Chamber to host immigration-business forum

The Business Journal of Phoenix - by Mike Sunnucks Phoenix Business Journal
The Tempe Chamber of Commerce will host a forum later this month on immigration and business featuring a top aide to Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas.

Thomas and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio have said they will pursue businesses that hire illegal immigrants next year after a new state law goes into effect with penalties for such actions.

The Nov. 15 Tempe chamber forum will feature Barnett Lotstein, assistant county attorney, and will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Fiesta Resort & Conference Center in Tempe.

Business groups are challenging the employer sanctions law in court and hope to get it thrown out. The measure would revoke the business licenses of employers caught knowingly hiring undocumented workers more than once.
