An Elgin man beat a coworker with a bat Wednesday in East Dundee, police said.

Alexis G. Castanon, of 476 St. Charles St., was charged with aggravated battery.

Castanon hit an 18-year-old man with an aluminum bat at 2:20 p.m. outside their workplace, Haeger Potteries, 7 Maiden Lane, police said.

The victim also was struck in the head and had a large abrasion on his face. He was taken to Sherman Hospital.

The victim said the two had an argument Tuesday and Castanon was waiting for him with the bat after work on Wednesday, police said.

Castanon was held in the Kane County jail on $5,000 bond with a May 8 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Castanon is not a U.S. citizen and is eligible for deportation if he pleads guilty or is found guilty of aggravated battery, officials said.
