Illegal immigrant from Mexico arrested in city

A fugitive operations team with United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Wednesday arrested a 36-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico who had been staying in Watertown.

According to the Watertown Police Department blotter, officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement called local dispatchers Wednesday at 5:41 a.m. and said they would be conducting surveillance at Woodfield Apartments, 1007 W. Main St. The police blotter stated that the fugitive operations team expected to be in that area for a couple of hours and officers planned on removing two subjects.

Gail Montenegro, spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, confirmed Wednes-day that one illegal immigrant was taken into custody in Watertown, but she could not release his name because of Department of Homeland Security privacy policies.

“It was somebody who had an outstanding order of deportation against them and we took them into custody and we are going to effect his deportation order,â€
