A Warren County man arrested for shoplifting turned out to be an illegal immigrant and now faces deportation, authorities say.

Juan Carlo Jiminez-Lopez, 21, of Whitehall, was arrested Monday evening at Wal-Mart in Queensbury after workers say they caught him stealing a necklace valued at $7.97.

Police say they discovered Jiminez-Lopez, a Mexican national. was in the country illegally and that he claimed to have been in the U.S. for nearly two years.

Jiminez-Lopez, who works at landscaping company Champlain Stone in Whitehall, was charged with petty larceny and released on an appearance ticket.

He was also turned over to agents from the U.S. Border Patrol for further investigation; Warren County police say he faces likely deportation.

I wonder if the landscaping company will be brought up on charges. ICE needs to check them out.

Is that headline supposed to make people feel sorry for him? It might be just a 7.97 necklace he stole, but thats not the 1st crime he committed. His 1st crime was entering the country ILLEGALLY.

Where's the rest of the story?

The necklace was a cure for his moms cancer!

He will be seperated from his boyfriend if he is deported !

He is already banned from the Mexican Wallmarts where will he shoplift now?

He thought the necklace was a string for his weed wacker!

It was a mothers day gift for his wife in Mexico from her 11 kids

He was told that it was free on Cinco de Gringo day

Of course the company who he was working for won't get in trouble...they never go after them...wouldn't want them to enforce the 1996 immigration laws now would we!

If he'll steal a necklace worth 7.97 what other crimes has he committed? Besides the whole entering a soveriegn nation ILLEGALLY? And what other names has he used all the times he'd been deported and snuck back in because I highly doubt this is the first time he has been arrested.

If the company hired one, they have probably hired others.

Exactly! Now if only our government was filled with people like you we wouldn't be in this mess. One can dream though. I still hold out hope if people like Brian Bilbray can be elected in IA country like California we still have a chance to undo the damage.
