Ranch Manager Near Laredo Fights Back Against Gunmen

Ranch Manager Near Laredo Fights Back Against Gunmen

    Reported by: Jordan Williams
    Last Update: 6:06 pm

LAREDO - Gunmen attacked a rancher near Laredo during a firefight along the Texas-Mexico border. The ranch manager grabbed a shotgun and fired back.

Details on the ranch attack are just being released. We got our hands on a report from the Texas DPS Border Security Operations Center. Here's what we know.

On Sunday, a ranch manager says he was driving on his land to check out suspicious activity. Around 6, he spotted several men in a white-colored Ford truck. He says several were inside the truck. Others were in the bed of the vehicle.

Before he could investigate, the rancher says the men opened fire on him. Bullets hit the vehicle in several spots. They shattered the driver's side window.

It's difficult to imagine what happened next. The rancher actually got out of the truck and took cover behind his truck and fired three shotgun blasts at the suspects. They took off. The rancher amazingly wasn't hurt.

This ranch attack has Texas leaders again calling for more federal resources along the border. The Texas agriculture commissioner says he's worried about farmers and ranchers. That's why he's created a new website called protectyourtexasborder.com.

Some are criticizing the agriculture commissioner and calling for the site to be taken down.

I suggest everyone contact the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture and encourage him to keep the site up.
