A Mexican national has been charged in Tucson federal court with transporting five illegal immigrants and placing their lives in danger.
Marco Antonio Mejia-Luna, 22, a legal permanent resident of the United States, was charged Aug. 28.

The day before, U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted Mejia-Luna driving north on Interstate 10 near Red Rock. When agents were trying to identify the license plate, the vehicle began swerving and trying to elude the Border Patrol, a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona said.

At I-10 and Picacho Peak, Mejia-Luna exited the freeway, and his vehicle rolled over. He and the five illegal immigrants tried to flee but were captured by Border Patrol agents.

Mejia-Luna's next court date was unavailable.
