Chertoff disappointed no immigration reform has passed

EL PASO, Texas — Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Tuesday that Congress' failure to pass comprehensive immigration legislation is adding to the workload for customs and immigration officers.

If legislation were passed that included a legal way for foreign workers to come to the U.S., officials could focus instead on those seeking to enter the U.S. "to do harm," Chertoff said at a border security conference in El Paso.

"We're faced with a system where our customs and immigration officers are saddled with the need to pursue people who are coming here to work, which distracts them from pursuing those who are coming to do harm," he said in a story posted online Tuesday by the El Paso Times.

Chertoff said he continues to hope for immigration reform.

"In the end, it's very hard to secure the border with only brute force," he said. "It can be done, but it's going to be a labor-intensive and time-consuming way to do it."

On Friday, Chertoff, along with Department of Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, announced that the Bush administration would move forward on immigration enforcement without Congress. The two said among the tools they'll use is a plan to administratively sanction employers who hire illegal immigrants.

    "Comprehensive REFORM." "REFORM, REFORM, REFORM"

All the word "reform" means to La Raza, its partner organizations, and the open border politicians is "AMNESTY."

C'mon Chertoff.............everyone knows you want shamnesty. The DHS is like every other government agency. Over-staffed and lazy.

What a pack of lies this one is spitting out of his mouth.

    Try this brute force Dumbo:

Have El Presidente get on the TV and tell EVERYONE from EVERYWHERE that if they are in the U.S. ILLEGALLY they should leave because the U.S. has immigration laws and they are being ENFORCED!

Yea......that's real brutal isn't it!!? And it doesn't cost a dime AND the only manpower it requires is that of ONE Person.

Chertoff needs to resign. He has NO business being in the position he is in while making statements in total conflict with his duties.

How can we get him fired ??? This is outrageous.

Maybe Newt Gingrich will give him a tongue lashing too !!!

Chertoff is a defeatist. If he can't handle his duties he should resign or be fired. It's a poor general who says the job can't be done. He's nothing but excuses. He's not a leader, he's a follower. Then again his leadership qualities are no worse than those of his boss. He shouldn't be heading DHS because he lacks the moral, ethical, and leadership qualities to do so.

BULLS--T! That's old rhetoric for amnesty..he's still beating a drum that now has a broken skin..what a jerk. We already have 9 guest worker programs, we don't need anymore. Hey Micheal, go raid McDonalds and Walnut, then come back and talk to us..guess what, we probably still won't believe you!

He isn't a defeatist - he has an agenda and he wants it accomplished.

That agenda doesn't include any deportation or changes other than to make them legal.

Take away the jobs - but they are not going to do that.
