U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (10/6/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 16,458 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested 10 criminal aliens and 9 gang members. There were 5 rocking incidents.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,647 pounds of marijuana while performing line watch duties near Hidalgo, Texas. Agents observed several unidentified subjects carrying suspected narcotics. When agents approached, the subjects dropped the bundles and absconded. A subsequent search revealed the bundles contained marijuana.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC) near Temecula, California. The subject was identified as a Sureños gang member with two active felony arrest warrants for dangerous drugs issued in the state of California.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,687 pounds of marijuana while tracking a group of suspected illegal aliens near Menagers, Arizona. The marijuana was found abandoned in backpacks, and five illegal aliens from Mexico were arrested in the vicinity.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Mexico for alien smuggling near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for multiple sex offenses, including soliciting lewd acts and indecent exposure.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,364 pounds of marijuana near Garceno, Texas. The contraband was located in a tool shed.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,249 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet Suburban near Rio Grande City, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading the suspected narcotics into the Suburban. When agents approached, all subjects fled and abandoned the marijuana and the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – A Border Patrol agent was assaulted by an illegal alien from El Salvador near Three Points, Arizona. The subject became combative during the arrest, but was subdued and place under arrest by the agent. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 668 pounds of marijuana that was abandoned near Nogales, Arizona. The marijuana was discovered near a tunnel, which appeared to originate in Mexico and connect with the existing drainage system in Nogales, Arizona.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,625 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Hebbronville, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A secondary inspection utilizing non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the trailer. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,305 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A secondary inspection utilizing non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the trailer. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents and Customs and Border Protection officers conducting southbound operations at the Douglas, Arizona Port of Entry seized 11,843 rounds of 7.62 ammunition and 43 ammunition magazines.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,307 pounds of marijuana, a pickup truck, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Eagle Pass, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a search revealed the marijuana concealed within the truck’s cargo.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sunland Park, New Mexico. The subject had pre-existing injuries, including a large head laceration, which he claimed to have received when he was assaulted and robbed by two unidentified subjects in Mexico. The subject was transported by local emergency medical services personnel to an area hospital, treated, and released into Border Patrol custody.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for rape and kidnapping. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a juvenile USC for alien smuggling near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed she was the subject of a missing person lookout and an active warrant of arrest for absconding from court jurisdiction issued in the state of California.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Paisa gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Chula Vista, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño 13 gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for aggravated sexual abuse of a child, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 187 pounds of marijuana, a vehicle, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Tombstone, Arizona. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a search uncovered the marijuana in the trunk. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender and had an active arrest warrant for parole violation issued in the state of Minnesota.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Barrio Azteca gang member. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in the state of Texas, and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Animas, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for second degree murder in the state of Arizona, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,099 pounds of marijuana and a Dodge van near La Casita, Texas. Agents observed the van traveling north after being loaded with suspected narcotics near the Rio Grande River. A Controlled Tire Deflation Device was utilized to disable the vehicle, but the driver was able to abscond on foot.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of Texas, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Cowlic, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of Utah, and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two USCs and two illegal aliens from Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. The USCs presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed the two illegal aliens concealed in the trunk.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lukeville, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape of a child in the state of Washington, and an active arrest warrant for dangerous drugs issued in the state of California. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.
