Homicide Suspect Apprehended by CBP Officers

    Bail Set at $2 Million

    (Friday, October 02, 2009)

San Yidro, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry last night, apprehended a 27-year-old fugitive with an outstanding felony warrant for homicide with bail set at $2 million.

CBP officers intercepted the man, Oscar Nava Salas, at about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, when he entered the San Ysidro border crossing as a passenger in a Ford Explorer. Salas accompanied by five family members all presented proof of their U.S. citizenship.

Upon routine name checks against law enforcement databases, officers were alerted that Salas was wanted. The vehicle and occupants were escorted into the secondary area for further processing.

During the secondary investigation officers, through biometric technology, confirmed Salas’ identity and that he was the subject of an active felony warrant issued by the Los Angeles Police department.

He was transported and booked into the San Diego County Jail.

Salas is the fourth homicide fugitive apprehension in the past seven days at the San Ysidro port of entry.
