Lou Dobbs Tonight
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
President Bush said today that critics of the Iraq war no
longer have any basis for claiming that the U.S. is not
winning. We’ll have a closer look on the fifth anniversary of
the wary.
We’ll also have the latest from the campaign trail, and:
* California, like many other states, is facing a massive
budget shortfall. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s budget reform
calls for slashing spending 10 percent across the board,
including $4.8 billion in education cuts. A look tonight at how
the federal government’s unwillingness to secure the border
with Mexico has let illegal immigration put a drastic drain on
California’s economy.
* Conventional economic wisdom holds that war is a giant
stimulus for the economy thanks to the billions of dollars
spent in the defense industry. Yet five years into the war in
Iraq, the U.S. is in recession. It doesn’t help that the U.S.
has lost much of its industrial base and is sending defense
projects overseas.
* After dozens of injuries and deaths linked to the blood
thinning drug Heparin, the Food and Drug Administration finally
thinks it has a lead on what made the drug so dangerous.
