Miguel Angel Trevino Morales faces charges in Texas in connection with five murders carried out by American teenagers dating to 2005.

    • June 8, 2005 : Bruno Orozco is killed in an industrial section of Laredo.

    • Dec. 8, 2005 : Moises Garcia, 25, is killed in the parking lot of a Torta Mex fastfood restaurant.

    • Jan. 8, 2006 : Noe Lopez, 27, is shot with a .40 caliber handgun outside a home. His half-brother was the intended target.

    • April 2, 2006: Mariano Resendez and his 15-year-old nephew, Jesus Resendez, are slain at an intersection along Zapata Highway, just inside Laredo city limits.

Source: Webb County district court records, federal indictments and plea agreements.

MIGUEL ANGEL TREVINO MORALES is wanted in five murders in the United States

A reputed drug kingpin targeted for directing the movement of tons of cocaine and marijuana across the Texas-Mexico border also is wanted in five murders carried out in the United States by a crew of American teenage hit men, authorities said Tuesday.

Miguel Angel Trevino Morales is described as the murderous chief operating officer in a drug-trafficking syndicate blamed for the majority of the narcotics smuggled through Houston on the way to Dallas, Atlanta and other parts of the United States, according to interviews and court documents reviewed by the Houston Chronicle.

On Monday, the U.S. government announced a $5 million bounty for information leading to Trevino's capture as part of a $50 million campaign to pressure cartel leaders. The Mexican government also has offered $2 million rewards for information that leads to the capture of Trevino, his brother Omar Trevino Morales, or other top Zeta and other cartel leaders.

Trevino allegedly oversaw the daily workings of the Gulf Cartel as it fought a brutal war against rivals as well as the Mexican government for control of the prized smuggling gateway between Mexico's Nuevo Laredo and Texas' Laredo. A federal indictment also contends Trevino's team, known as the Zetas, served as the cartel's security force by killing, kidnapping, torturing and collecting debts, as well as protecting loads.

He has been charged with ordering five murders in Laredo — not only for profit and control of the corridor, but also to settle personal scores. Laredo police also are investigating whether Trevinoordered a sixth killing — the June 29 murder of a Laredo man, Sergio Botello, found dumped on the side of the road covered in blood, according to a criminal complaint.

Trevino is suspected of targeting Botello in retaliation for the killing of one of Trevino's brothers, the complaint states. Trevino has not been charged with murder in that case.

Lori Garcia's 25-year-old son, Moises, was killed across the border in Laredo in a hit allegedly ordered by Trevino as Moises' wife and toddler son watched. Garcia said she hadn't heard about the rewards.
