3,000 foreign immigrants move annually to SJ County

Eight new foreigners take up residence in San Joaquin County every day.

And one out of every four international immigrants end up in the South County cities of Manteca, Lathrop, Tracy and Ripon.

The immigration is part of statistics compiled by the University of Pacific Ebhardt School of Business detailing demographic trends in San Joaquin County.

Every year, 3,000 foreigners move to San Joaquin County. That translates into a little more than 20,000 immigrants between 2000 and 2006 or the equivalent of a third of the City of Manteca's current population.

A breakdown of those 3,000 international immigrants shows:

    • 40.3 percent are Hispanic.

    • 32.9 percent are Asian.

    • 11.3 percent are white.

    • 8.3 percent are others.

    • 7.2 percent are black.

    • 60.2 percent have no high school degree.

    • 22.1 percent have a high school degree.

    • 9.2 percent have a Bachelors of Arts degree or higher.

    • 8.5 percent have some years of college.

    • 43.3 percent are males.

    • 56.7 percent are females.

    • 42 percent are between 20 and 39 years of age.

    • 39.1 percent are under 20 years or age.

    • 12.8 percent are between the ages of 40 and 59 years of age.

    • 6.1 percent are 60 years or older.

Without any type of immigration - foreign or domestic -' San Joaquin County would still have grown by 1 percent a year from 2000 to 2006. The net gain in population was broken down as follows:

    • 42 percent natural increase.

    • 38 percent domestic immigration.

    • 20 percent international immigration.

42% increase due to natural births is alarming if they are born to the 60.2% without a HS diploma. That leaves 39.8% of the people paying more to support the 60.2%!

This is a gross underestimate. The entire San Joaquin Valley, in fact, all of California, is a haven for illegal immigrants. The actual numbers are much higher.
