Kansas Senate Committee Considering Immigration Bill

    http://www.cattlenetwork.com/content.as ... tid=202514

The Kansas Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee is holding hearings today on a bill that would penalize employers who hire unauthorized aliens. A coalition of 36 trade groups representing business will testify against the proposal.

Before reaching the mid-point of the 2008 session February 29, the full House approved a bill that would create a review process for existing and future Intensive Groundwater Use Control Areas (IGUCA). Supported by KLA, HB 2625 also would require the chief engineer to establish an advisory panel to help guide IGUCA decisions.

Also last week, the Senate approved a bill that would establish a Kansas Farm and Ranchland Protection Program. SB 538, supported by KLA, would give the State Conservation Commission authority to administer the purchase of conservation easements from agricultural landowners. The legislation now will be considered by the Kansas House.

KLA legislative affairs staff is in the state capitol every day during the session to protect the business interests of members. This includes reviewing more than 1,000 bills under consideration by the legislature to determine if there would be an impact on livestock producers.
