Palm Beach firefighter James Grimes and Lt. Roger Bassett lift a 35-gallon fuel container from the beach Monday morning in the 500 block of South Ocean Boulevard, near Via Marina.

The drum was one of two left after an 18- to 20-foot boat came ashore following engine problems early Sunday. Palm Beach police located early Sunday three people who had been on the boat — two Jamaican nationals and the boat operator, who was identified as Sterling A. Christie, according to police spokeswoman Janet Kinsella.

The three were handed over to U.S. Border Patrol agents, who also took custody of the boat, she said. 'Sea Tow had to tow it from the beach,' said Palm Beach Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Peter Codispoti.

'The barrels were contained. There was no hazard,' he said.
