Is Your Local Law Enforcement Agency A Part Of The Problem?

Is Your Local Law Enforcement Agency A Part Of The Immigration Enforcement Problem?

Before your state or local police agencies can begin to check the immigration status of the people they arrest or perform any immigration related law enforcement functions they need to apply to the Department of Homeland Security for a 287(g) Agreement and send the participating officers for five or six weeks of training. The Department of Homeland Security has appealed to state, county and local police agencies across the nation trying to get them on board with this immigration enforcement effort. At this point there are only nine sheriff’s departments and county police agencies operating county jail systems and five state law enforcement agencies and state correctional agencies that have entered into these agreements with DHS. There are another 14 city, county or state law enforcement agencies currently considering 287(g) Authority or in the process of meeting the requirements for 287(g) Authority permitting designated officers within that group to perform immigration law enforcement functions. If the 14 pending agreements are eventually certified there will be a total of 28 such agreements nationwide. If that doesn’t seem like a lot to you, it’s probably because it isn’t. If you compare the number of state, country and local law enforcement agencies with 287(g) agreements to the 120 cities and 23 entire states (plus Washington D.C.) that have officially adopted sanctuary policies with regard to illegal aliens, the size of the problem becomes a bit more clear.

Without the cooperation of local law enforcement agencies the federal immigration enforcement agencies can do very little about the problem and it will continue to grow out of control. If you are concerned about this problem and you don’t see your state, country or city law enforcement agencies listed below you might want to ask your local representatives why they are not trying to help solve the problem of illegal aliens.

As of September 2007, the following state, county and city agencies, departments and jails have or are pursuing 287(g) agreements with the Department of Homeland Security.

    Sheriff’s Departments and Jails:
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (CA)
    Orange County Sheriff’s Department (CA)
    Almance County (NC)
    Mecklenburg County Sheriff (Charlotte, NC)
    Gaston County Sheriff (NC)
    Davidson County Sheriff (Nashville TN)
Costa Mesa Police Department (CA) (requested authority and was given one Immigration Enforcement Agent to work its city jail in lieu of 287(g))
    Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department (AZ)
    Phoenix Police Department (AZ)

    State Law Enforcement Agencies:
    Alabama State Police
    Arizona Department of Corrections
Arizona Department of Public Safety DPS/Highway Patrol
    Florida Department of Law Enforcement
Massachusetts entered into an agreeement under Governor Mitt Romney, but incoming Governor said he intends to cancel agreement.

List of Agencies considering 287(g) Authority or pending MOA:
    Rogers, AR
    Springdale AR
    Morristown P.D., NJ
Irving TX City Council Rejected, Citizen Petition Circulating.
    Tennessee Highway Patrol
    Herndon Police (VA)
    Culpeper Police (VA)
    Loudoun County Sheriff (VA)
    Manassas Police (VA)
    Rutherford County (TN)

    Carrolton Police (TX)

Wow, there's Waukegan. I wish we knew how long our application will be pending. Our local paper said it may take two years?!

For those knew do a search on Waukegan here or pm me if you're interested in working on your city. It took us about a year of contacting the city before the council voted on applying. What amazing times it was -thousands of people were in the streets protesting. Ted Hayes and William were there.

We are working on our county sheriff now. He estimates that 5% of his population are illegal aliens...heard him on the radio yesterday.

Sheriff Tim Gobble of Bradley County Tennessee (Cleveland, Tennessee) says that ICE has suspended the 287 (g) program. His earlier comments were that the program was ended.

Since January 2007 citizens believed that Sheriff Gobble had applied for the 287 (g) and learned the truth recently at a town hall meeting that he had not applied in fact. He is stated in news articles as having applied for the 287 and then considering applying for the 287. His flip flop is further muddied by his comments of we live in a global community and "give me your tired, your poor," etc. verbal wanderings.

Sheriff Tim Gobble has tied acquiring the 287 (g) to his request for 4 million dollars from the County (he has filed suit) so he may have two new officers to work gangs, the 287 program, and other duties he said. He refers to the concern of citizens over this issue "their plight," instead of the community's plight.

The trial of the local MS 13 burned body murder commenced last week in Benton, Tennessee (Polk County), though the initial judicial proceedings began in Cleveland, TN, part of Bradley County under Sheriff Gobble. The murder victim was strangled, stabbed and then burned in his own car in the Cherokee National Forest by the MS 13 gang members.

At every town hall meeting, three so far, Sheriff Gobble has been asked about the 287 (g) and also asked if it will take the murder of a law enforcement officer or the gang style execution murder such as occurred in New Jersey with the college students for him to act.

He said that training any of his current officers would take manpower from crime and they would have to travel, though one of his officers said ICE would come to them. Lots of flip flopping and very little desire to act on the illegal alien invasion to Bradley County, now known as the "easy road to freedom" for criminal illegal aliens.
