Mexican government predicts border fence probably won't be built

MEXICO CITY Mexican President Vicente Fox's spokesman predicts today the United States probably will never build the 700 miles of proposed fencing along the Mexican border.

Even though the U-S Congress has approved the one-point-two (B) billion-dollar project. The bill must still be signed into law by President Bush, but Mexico is lobbying the Bush to veto it -- and Fox spokesman Ruben Aguilar says Congress is unlikely to approve funding for it.

On Monday, the Mexican government sent a diplomatic note to Washington criticizing last week's U-S Senate vote to authorize the new fencing.

Yesterday, all eight parties in Mexico's Congress signed an accord urging the government to use all the diplomatic means at its disposal to try to stop the construction of the fences.

U-S State Department spokesman Tom Casey said yesterday the United States is talking to Mexico about the issue of immigration, but he did not give details.

Aguilar said on Tuesday his country still wants a comprehensive immigration reform that would allow more people to migrate to the United States legally.

So what now? Wackident told Fox "not to worry, we'll never build it anyway because like I promised we're going to OPEN THE BORDERS with SPP and NAU and end this g$d da$mned country anyway".

I have a question. Wouldn't the fence stop ONLY the illegal aliens and smugglers? All the LEGAL traffic goes through the ports anyway, right?

    Judy,
Maybe Jorge wants to have a big celebration similar to the falling of the Berlin wall. His plan is to waste millions of tax payers dollars, build the fence to calm down the angry Americans. Then he will push (or the next pres will) for the NAU and there will be some big huge "inagural" party to bring the US into a new "secure and prosperous" era with the celebration of tearing down the newly built border.

It sounds pretty far fetched, but then again, so did the Pelican Brief.

I am inclined to agree with El Presidente on this one.

Somehow, I don't think it was ever really planned to be built - at last not as proposed.

The time estimate I have heard is 10 years - a lot can happen in this country in ten years.

This fence is not a bad idea - but it should not be the only idea - and that is all they are giving us - something for 10 years in the future.

I think we are being had - once again.

I believe there are date time-lines written into the bill, which specify when certain requirements are to be accomplished.

The bill must still be signed into law by President Bush, but Mexico is lobbying the Bush to veto it -- and Fox spokesman Ruben Aguilar says Congress is unlikely to approve funding for it.
Are we to believe the talking heads in Mexico? Isn't $1.2 billion of the estimated 2.7 billion needed for the fence already funded? We just have to pressure the 110th Congress to fund the rest. Mexico was wrong about Bush signing the bill, because it was signed today. Couldn't they be wrong about the rest? I know it's hard to believe anything coming from our leadership, but I'd advise you to believe even less of what is coming from Mexico's so-called leaders. They are going to say whatever it is the Mexican people want to hear.

The US Congress increased funding for Border Patrol after 9/11...and then again 4 years later.

Wackident ignored them both times and instead, cut the number of agents on our borders.

Congress can pass a law. But the Executive Branch executes the laws.

Congress can't force the Executive Branch to do anything.

    It's separation of powers.

Only WE can force the Executive Branch to execute and enforce our laws.

All Congress can do is impeach and remove someone or someones ignoring our laws.
