MCSO nabs 10 illegals in Wikieup

KINGMAN - The Mohave County Sheriff's Office arrested 10 illegal immigrants in Wikieup following a search Sunday night.

The search was prompted by a call from a rancher, who said several people fled from a van parked on his property after he approached the vehicle.

Sheriff Spokeswoman Trish Carter said that as the rancher approached, he heard one of the individuals tell the others in English that someone was home, presumably because they thought they were pulling up to a vacant property.

Deputies with the Sheriff's Office responded around midnight and commenced a ground search, while the Department of Public Safety's Air Ranger out of Tucson conducted an aerial search.

Carter said deputies spent several hours tracking the van's occupants before finding seven of them around 3:30 a.m.

Carter said that as the deputies were walking the subjects out of the desert, they were approached by three more individuals who said they were cold.

Border Patrol responded to the scene and is handling the investigation. It's not clear if all of the van's occupants were found.
