ACLU: 20% of N.J. schools asking about immigration

ACLU: 20% of N.J. schools asking about immigration

NEWARK — The American Civil Liberties Union says at least one-fifth of New Jersey's school districts are asking students their immigration status as they register for school.

The ACLU says it violates state and federal law to ask.

Compliance in the ACLU's survey this year was little better than two years ago, after which the state Department of Education warned districts not to ask about students' immigration status.

ACLU staff and volunteers pose as family or friends of students and call all the state's school districts to find out about their policies. Of 515 that responded, 139 said they had forms that asked for immigration status.

A state Education Department spokeswoman says schools that violate the law could face punitive action in the future, including losing state aid.

It is our right to know the number! And it is a number, no privacy information is given. Our school and government have gotten good at numbers and privacy. Pass and Failure of School is a privacy number issue. Are they going to tell us the exact children? NO, but we get the numbers. The illegal criminal aliens are included and kept PRIVATE in these numbers!

My son is in a class and gets put into a group with a child who whispers, and my son told me the child is retarded! The whispering child is holding my child's education back, actually it is called "DUMB MY CHILD DOWN".

    Cannot speak English?

And my son is having to TEACH him English?

ICE - EVERY PLACE IN AMERICA NEEDS YOU!

TOTAL THANKS TO TWO MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES, LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, LOCAL LANDLORDS, LOCAL EMPLOYERS, AND NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNMENT FOR AIDING AND ABETTING

WRONG!!! It is against the federal law to deny K-12 public school admittance based on immigration status but it is not against the law to ask immigration status. Kudos to these scholls for trying to determine how many illegals are in their schools. Isn't it our RIGHT TO KNOW as taxpayers how much of our tax dollars are going to public schools in support of illegal aliens? I'd like to know one step further...also how many of our tax dollars are going to support the children of illegals that are born here (anchor babies).

I find it odd that they expect this "law" to be obeyed, but have no problem with violating federal law against aiding and abetting illegal aliens.

100% of them should be asking and then submitting that data to the federal government so we can ascertain the extent of this burden on the American tax payer...
