LA, CA American Apparel-"Legalize LA" campaign

    Do I smell BOYCOTT?

    http://www.americanapparel(DOT)net/contact/legalizela/

At American Apparel, we've always felt strongly about the subject of immigration. Even as early as 2003, we were running ads and putting up billboards calling for reform (see here).

Today this issue is more contentious than ever and we feel the time is ripe for individuals, companies, and communities to speak out honestly about it

    Provocative ad:

See how well they are doing hiring illegal aliens in LA?

Living On The Edge At American Apparel
Dov Charney's fast-growing clothing company is built on pro-labor policies, racy ads, and a sexually charged culture

Only a handful of chief executives appear in their own ads. Even fewer appear in them without any pants on. But Dov Charney, the 36-year-old in charge of hip clothing maker American Apparel Inc., is not your typical corporate chieftain. His sense of style -- evoking the seedy side of the disco era -- permeates the company's in-store experience and advertising, including one ad picturing his bare backside. It also carries through to the workplace: Charney feels free to engage in consensual sexual relationships with his staff. "I've had relationships, loving relationships, that I'm proud of," he says. "I think it's a First Amendment right to pursue one's affection for another human being."

    TRANSLATION

Female sewing machine operators who are here working without any papers are so much easier for me to pressure into having sexual relations. If it were not for my hiring them here they would be working for minimum wge without benefits. If they feel upset at my grabbing at their behinds or crotch grinding them so what. They must have known just what my reputation was before they started working here. - Dov Charney
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

140 stores WORLDWIDE? Oh my, what a giant of commerce.

I've been in one of their stores and have found their "quality" extremely inferior. They try to compete with Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch, which is laughable! They price high for truly cheap workmanship and materials. My daughter came home from this shopping trip and told all her friends their stuff was crap! This was all BEFORE finding out their illegal alien stance.

Don't think they will last long on the East coast.

I just sent them an email.

    Partly reads,

I can't believe a company that call themselves AMERICAN APPAREL is pandering the the racists hate mongers that believe we stole this continent. I am going to call for a boycott of your products. Maybe you should speak to the people at Absolut and see how well it has worked for them by alienating yourself from the AMERICAN poeple. People that have no respect for the law can have no respect for America. After all, it is what makes American the great country she is. By having a country full of LAW ABIDING AMERICANS. Never again will I buy your products. I suggest you move to the country you are REALLY loyal to, mexico. You traitors.

Doubt that it will make any difference to them though. I tell ya, what is becoming of this great nation, and where will we all go when we are not welcome in our own homeland.
I know that are alot of diehards that will say to me, "that is never going to happen", but to you I say, who is going to stop it? Us?
I mean we are fighting a good fight but do any of us have the money that it is going to take? After all, THAT is what is really behind all this. MONEY. And because of all the illegal leeches, I don't have to much for myself.

This is why they're doing it. From another ALIPAC thread:

ICE officials have also been asking Los Angeles businesses, including garment maker American Apparel Inc. , to submit I-9 hiring forms and other payroll documents for scrutiny. Robert Schoch, special agent in charge for ICE investigations in seven Southern California counties, wouldn't divulge the name of any other companies that had been served with a notice to present documents, saying only that there has been a "significant increase."

In a recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing, American Apparel said that as a result of the ICE investigation, it "could experience very substantial turnover of employees on short or no notice, which could result in manufacturing and other delays."
    (from http://online.wsj.com and http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-112122.html)

I hope American Apparel gets raided next, right in the middle of one of the owner's trysts!!!!

the owner is a pig....and he's a sleazy profiteer of illegal immigration...this isn't about some noble stance he's taking...it's about his ability to get rich by selling junk clothes made at the hands of illegal alien labor. Something surely to be proud of...what a jerk!
