IL-Immigration mural vandalized by racist slurs
Immigration mural vandalized by racist slurs
July 29, 2009 5:28 PM | 3 Comments
For a month, art students in the Pilsen community have worked on a two-story, 30-foot-wide mural supporting immigration. Overnight, someone scrawled over their unfinished work, calling Mexicans "racist" and the artists' message "lies."
"I was just really saddened by the words that were put on there," said Vanessa Sanchez, youth programs project manager for Yollocalli Arts Reach, a youth organization that is part of the National Museum of Mexican Art. "You know this is a mural that we're putting out for our community."
It's the second time in a week and a half that someone has spray-painted graffiti over the artwork, which proclaims "We are a nation of immigrants" and "No human being is illegal."
Sanchez said they did not call police but may look into investing in video cameras to protect the mural.
She said there are about a dozen artists working on the project on the side of Yollocalli's building at 1401 W. 18th St. The students range in age from 13 to 23, and the mural, titled "Declaration of Immigration," sprang from a past exhibit of the same name at the National Museum of Mexican Art.
Sanchez said the painting, which also includes barbed wire and desert images, is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 10.

Oh silly me I should have looked a little harder before I posted the link above as there is a little tiny mural on that building. It's hard to believe that it took them a whole MONTH to paint that being the hard workers that they supposedly are.

Sorry, not buying that it was done by "racist" vandals (aka "whites" )
I'm assuming that this is in a predominantly latino neighborhood controlled by latino gangs where there is a definite risk to the safety of those of other races. I find it highly unlikely that "racists" would have dared to venture into that area to deface that so-called "mural" at all, let alone in such a minimal way if they did decide to take the risk.
JMHO but it sounds like more of the same publicity seeking. perpetual "victim" crap we continually hear from these people <yawn>Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

That's art?!?!?! HA, it's a propoganda piece, not art.
How quickly Rivera lays the blame on the "right wing" without proof.
For all we know, it could be someone in her own group who wants to garner sympathy for the "poor" illegals and blame those who want the laws enforced.
By all means, I think they should put a hidden video camera to catch the culprits. Hope they don't announce it in advance to their "community".Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

So according to this "artwork mural", we shouldn't have any Homeland Security and we shouldn't have a border. We just use those things to "cause ethnic conflict".
If I ever get stopped by a police officer who tells me I was driving illegally over the speed limit, I'll just explain to him/her that "No one is illegal." For that matter, if the police try to arrest me for burglary or robbing a bank, I wonder if that defense would work for me? - "Officer, no one is illegal".<div>Number*U.S. military*in S.Korea to protect their border with N.Korea: 28,000. Nice to see how our tax dollars are probably being spent.
I bet they got a grant from La Raza via the Stimulus money to put together that amazing piece of Mexican art work! Maybe they were paid by the hour which would explain the amount of work they created in a months time.
PS

Maybe their "art" was not receiving any notice; what better way to increase attention than to claim "racism"!
For a LACK of defensible arguments the Pro-ILLEGAL Elitists, Elitist Politicians, Elitist Political Contributors, ILLEGAL EMPLOYERS, and other Special Interest Groups benefiting from the ILLEGALS always fall back on name calling, attacking anyone who disagrees attempting to label them as racists.
