    U. S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: December 10 - December 16

    (12/16/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 39,646 pounds of marijuana and 22.7 pounds of cocaine. Agents arrested 8 criminal aliens and 10 gang members. There were 4 rocking incidents.

    *This overview is compiled from incidents reported to Office of Border Patrol and is not intended to reflect all Border Patrol enforcement actions. Most arrests and seizures fail to meet the requirements for mandatory reporting to Border Patrol Headquarters.

    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Falfurrias, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang. Records checks revealed he had also been previously removed from the United States.

    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents attempted to perform a vehicle stop on a suspected load vehicle near Havana, Texas. The driver of the 1999 GMC Yukon fled the scene and threw several tire spikes out the window, disabling a number of vehicles. No injuries were reported. The driver and passenger abandoned the GMC and agents discovered 85 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape/carnal knowledge of a child under 14, and had been previously removed from the United States.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Newfield, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño 13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had a prior conviction for reckless discharge of a firearm/endangerment, driving under the influence, and had been previously removed from the United States.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested four illegal aliens from Mexico and seized a 9mm High Point handgun, a semi-automatic AK-47 rifle, and two loaded magazines near Rio Rico, Arizona.

    El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape by force, lewd acts with a child under 14, and had been previously removed from the United States.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,938 pounds of marijuana, a tractor trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. Anomalies were discovered in the trailer by a Z Backscatter X-ray, and a search by agents uncovered 134 bundles of marijuana in large hockey bags.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,130 pounds of marijuana, a 1989 Ford F-150 pick-up, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) near La Rosita, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading bundles of suspected narcotics into the pick-up near the Rio Grande River. Agents initiated a vehicle stop and the subject fled from the vehicle, but was apprehended after a short foot chase.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 5,115 pounds of marijuana, a box truck, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. A Z Backscatter X-ray of the truck revealed anomalies in the cargo, and a subsequent search by agents uncovered 170 bundles of marijuana concealed within a load of asbestos tiles.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested 21 illegal aliens from Mexico and seized 2,760 pounds of marijuana near Pia Oik, Arizona. Agents reported that all of the subjects were backpackers who were carrying a total of 58 bundles of marijuana. A Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine asset assisted in the arrest and seizure.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Columbus, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño gang member. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for cocaine sale, marijuana possession, and a weapons offense. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,731 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer, and a subsequent inspection revealed 75 bundles of marijuana commingled with a load of onions.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,157 pounds of abandoned marijuana near Hidalgo, Texas. Numerous subjects were carrying 21 bundles of marijuana and, upon seeing agents, abandoned their contraband and absconded into Mexico.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,367 pounds of marijuana and a 1997 Chevrolet van near Donna, Texas. During routine patrol duty, agents discovered the marijuana inside the abandoned vehicle.

    Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Eagle Pass, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Paisas gang. Records checks revealed the subject also had an extensive criminal history.


    San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued seven illegal aliens from Mexico near Imperial Beach, California. The subjects were stranded on a sandbar in the Tijuana River Channel, trapped by the incoming tide and heavy rain. Agents initiated a rescue operation and retrieved all seven subjects.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 6,744 pounds of marijuana and four vehicles near Papago Farms, Arizona. Agents discovered the abandoned vehicles containing the marijuana. Records checks revealed two of the vehicles were reported stolen.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

    Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 833 pounds of marijuana, a marine vessel, and arrested three nationals of Mexico near Zapata, Texas. The vessel, loaded with the marijuana, capsized when the subjects attempted to evade arrest. Agents, along with local law enforcement officials, rescued the subjects and retrieved the contraband.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,266 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Z Backscatter X-ray of the trailer revealed anomalies in the cargo. A search revealed the marijuana concealed between pallets of avocados.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,526 pounds of marijuana and recovered a 2005 Lincoln Navigator near Vamori, Arizona. An agent observed the Lincoln traveling northbound from the international border. When agents deployed to the area, they discovered the vehicle abandoned with 65 bundles of marijuana inside. Records checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued an 11-year-old boy near Benson, Arizona. During processing, an illegal alien from Ecuador claimed that she was separated from her son while attempting to abscond from agents. Agents initiated a search, located the boy, and reunited him with his mother.

    El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 22.7 pounds of cocaine, a 2002 Chrysler, and arrested two nationals of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Holtville, California. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed nine bricks of cocaine hidden within the dashboard.


    El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Thousand Palms, California. Records checks revealed he was the subject of an active arrest warrant for rape using a gun in the State of Utah.


    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Cuba near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for criminal sexual penetration, and an active arrest warrant for failure to register as a sex offender in the State of New Mexico.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Barrio Azteca gang member, and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


    Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,735 pounds of marijuana, a 2004 Ford, and arrested a USC near Freer, Texas. The subject was encountered hiding in the brush after he crashed the vehicle and absconded. A search of the vehicle revealed 216 bundles of marijuana concealed within false compartments.


    Miami Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Yulee, Florida. Records checks revealed the subject was a Sureño 13 gang member and had been previously removed from the United States.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,632 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A Z Backscatter X-ray of the trailer revealed the marijuana within a load of rotten watermelons.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,588 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Kingsville, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A Z Backscatter X-ray of the trailer revealed anomalies within the load, and a subsequent search uncovered the marijuana.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,783 pounds of marijuana, $1,902.00 in U.S. currency, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Kingsville, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Z Backscatter X-ray of the trailer revealed anomalies within the load. A subsequent search uncovered the marijuana.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,146 pounds of marijuana and a 1991 Chevrolet Astro near Madero, Texas. During the seizure, an assailant brandished a handgun and aimed it at an agent. The agent fired one round from his Border Patrol-issued handgun. The assailant and several other suspected narcotics smugglers fled the area and absconded into Mexico.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents reported that a narcotics load driver was killed while attempting to elude agents near Donna, Texas. The subject jumped out of the still-moving vehicle, and was subsequently struck by the out-of-control vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 780 pounds of marijuana.
