Following the enactment of the United States’ toughest immigration law in Arizona, Utah Representative Stephen Sandstrom (R - Orem) announced that he will sponsor the same legislation in Utah during the 2011 session of the Utah state legislature.

Following Sandstrom’s announcement, he received a flood of e-mails from around the state thanking him for his willingness to carry the bill and offering support for his efforts.

Sandstrom is a co-founder of the Patrick Henry Caucus which is dedicated to restoring and upholding the sovereignty and rights of each individual state. During the 2010 legislative session, Caucus members passed a dozen pieces of significant state sovereignty legislation.

Sandstrom believes that states have a right and responsibility to protect their citizens from the negative impacts of illegal immigration. He also rejects the claim that the Arizona law will lead to racial profiling.

“As an elected official and a United States Marine sworn to uphold and support both the United States and Utah Constitutions, I have a responsibility to ensure that Utah’s men, women and especially its children are protected from the negative impacts of illegal immigration,â€
