Napolitano invites congressional leadership to visit U.S.-Mexico border

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has invited members of the House and Senate leadership to visit the U.S.-Mexico border and see the White House’s latest efforts to curtail drug and weapon smuggling and illegal immigration.

Napolitano said the trip, proposed for some time this the spring, would allow the lawmakers to see for themselves the increased levels of security and safety that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has created along the southwest border.

Lawmakers and local politicians in the southwest border region have criticized Napolitano and President Obama over the past two years for not doing enough to secure the border, saying that the uptick in Mexican drug cartel violence is trickling into the U.S.

But Napolitano says the border is the safest it has been in recent years. And the former Arizona governor defended the steps the administration has taken, saying that the confiscation of illegal goods increased across the board in the last fiscal year as compared to the previous year.

“Despite these facts, the situation on the border continues to be mischaracterized, and I am concerned that this is hurting the morale of our law enforcement personnel and the local economies of border towns,â€

I hope she also takes them to the national parks that are now too dangerous for American to enter due to the large, violent presence of illegals and drug smugglers.

Janet should put her money where her mouth is and hold a month-long convention in Juarez. Take Eric Holder along just to prove a point. The two of them are quite the homeland security team.

It would solve quite a few problems.

If the border is more secure, and deportations have increased, then why didn't the illegal alien population decrease, as reported by the PEW foundation? Something doesn't add up.

Why the h%$l hasn't she invited Nobama to visit the border? Our governor has invited him numerous times and he keeps turning her down!

Yep, I would love to see them all camp out in one of Arizona's National parks along the border for a couple of nights WITHOUT any Armed protection! that would change thier minds.... If they lasted....

What a dog an pony show. I don't think that anything will happen when they are there, the cartels have to protect their business.

We should write to the members going down there with ole "Nappy" and make sure they instruct her to ensure they take them all down along the land reservations in Arizona and Texas between 9pm and 5am 2 or 3 nights out of a week (and make their visit UNANNOUNCED)!!!!

That should do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
