ICE chief’s efforts praised and panned

A year ago, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents swept into six Swift & Co. meat-processing plants and arrested more than 1,200 alleged illegal immigrants.

The agency’s biggest work-site raid ever seemed to be a crowning moment for Julie Myers, the Shawnee native who has led the agency for almost two years. But in this era of intense debate about illegal immigration, the raids provided Myers little protection from critics.

Yes, it showed that Myers, who defended her work in an interview Friday with The Kansas City Star, had awakened ICE from its dormancy during President Bush’s first term. And that has earned her a shot at continuing to lead the agency after her temporary appointment ends next month.

But some in the anti-illegal immigration crowd dismissed the raids as being more about show than substance. Others criticized focusing on immigrants but not employers.

Advocates for immigrants panned the raids for ripping parents from their children.

“Man, I’d hate to have her job,â€

Not only should this woman not be confirmed she should be removed from office immediately for gross dereliction of duties. and prosecuted for treason.


This woman has allowed her organization to basicely close up shop in two major cities and allow the illegal alien population to run the streets with no fear of any type of action from the useless government agency she is the supposed leader of.

She has allowed a large amount of her staff to be reassigned to non enforcement job roles while the enforcement side is lacking in resources and unable to perform their responsibilities to the American taxpaying public she has been entrusted to protect and defend.

If she spent as much time doing her job as she did defending herself and her lack of judgment in common sense matters she would be ahead in the game.

Since she has shown a minimum of interest in the performance of her organization she should be replaced by someone that will look out for the interests of the American people immediately.

This type of behavior would not be tolerated in the private sector.
Why must we be forced to tolerate it from those we have elected and chosen to protect us?
