Wonder if we'll hear anymore about this? Wouldn't want to let the public know the violence may be spilling over across our border would they?

advertisementU.S. Border Patrol agents arrested five men carrying weapons and drugs Tuesday night near Arivaca and discovered more than 1,500 pounds of marijuana in an abandoned SUV early Wednesday morning on the Tohono O'odham Reservation.
A 7 p.m. Tuesday, agents working near the town of Arivaca, about 50 miles southwest of Tucson, encountered five men carrying three automatic rifles and two shotguns, said Mario Escalante, Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman. The men, all from Mexico, were also carrying six bundles of marijuana that weighed a total of nearly 300 pounds, he said.
The area where the men were arrested is known for bandit activity, but it's unknown if the five had robbed or assaulted anybody, he said. The agents arrested the men without any scuffle or incident. They were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Since Oct. 1, the beginning of fiscal year 2008, agents in the Tucson Sector have seized 81 weapons compared with 133 at the same time last year, Escalante said.
The discovery of the abandoned SUV filled with bundles of marijuana occurred at about 4 a.m. Wednesday in the San Miguel area in the southeastern corner of the Tohono O'odham Reservation, Escalante said.
Agents were following tire tracks that went north and then westbound when they came upon a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban hidden in the brush. They found 64 bundles of marijuana weighing a total of 1,511 pounds, he said.
The Suburban, which was reported stolen out of Tempe, was turned over to the Tohono O'odham police. The drugs were handed off to the Drug Enforcement Administration, he said.
Through April 30, agents in the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector had seized 519,880 pounds of marijuana, down 8 percent from the same time the previous year, agency figures show.
