Huckabee signs Sen. Sessions' Immigration Pledge
    Posted by Joy Lin

    (CBS)From CBS News' Joy Lin:

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. -- Mike Huckabee has changed his mind and will sign an Alabama senator’s immigration pledge for presidential candidates - an effort to defeat the McCain-Kennedy proposal in the U.S. Senate.

In Birmingham last week, Huckabee said he was almost ready to sign the pledge put forth by Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., but was on the fence regarding one of its aspects. "Which one?" a reporter asked.

Huckabee said it had to do with the 13th point of the 15-point pledge, one to “eliminate the visa lottery program and change current preference categories that guarantee automatic entry for aging parents and extended family members and replace it with a system that fairly and objectively evaluates at least 50% of applicants based on characteristics such as education, skills, English ability, and age.â€

Still don't trust someone on this issue who changes, or as Dixie rightfully notes, flip flops, during the middle of a heated, high-stakes campaign. Not that long he was calling us names and pandering to ethnocentric groups.

Tom Tancredo should be sort of proud of Huckabee because''imitation is the highest form of flattery'' and also desperate times, means desperate measures and Shuckabee is desperate!

He signed a pledge to DEFEAT THE MCCAIN-KENNEDY PROPOSAL IN THE U.S. SENATE.

What McCain-Kennedy Proposal? It says it's in the Senate (meaning now?). Have they proposed a new amnesty plan we don't know about? Surely they aren't speaking about the defeated amnesty plan--it was defeated and is gone.

I think they've shelved it for the time being and can drag it out again at any time if they screw up enough courage.

This sounds like an intelligent political strategy no doubt orchestrated by Ed Rollins, his political strategist (and Reagan's) who many of you know as a "regular" on Lou Dobbs Tonight.

If McCain wins, selecting Huckabee as a running mate would be a good political strategy in an attempt to unite the Republican party on both sides of the immigration issue, however one that is potentially frightening.
