Department of Public Safety officers busted what authorities believed was a fraudulent identification operation in Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon.

Americo Perez Bamaca, 19, of Guatemala and Jesus Monroy-Cruz, 44, of Mexico were charged on suspicion of manufacturing fraudulent identification, taking the identity of another, conducting a criminal enterprise, forgery and trafficking in stolen identity, according to the public safety department.

A two-week investigation was conducted by the Arizona Fraudulent Identification Task Force, which was created in 2005 as part of a crackdown on crime related to illegal immigration.

The task force obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 2400 block of West Glenrosa Avenue near Interstate 17 and Indian School Road.

Investigators approached the residence around noon. They arrested one man as he left the apartment and the other man as he tried to flee out the back door.

Investigators seized three identification card makers, printers, scanners, software, computers, fraudulent documents ready for delivery, 1,500 pieces of pre-printed identification card stock for various Mexican state driver's licenses and 25 pre-printed pieces of Arizona identification card stock and a laminator.
