Gov. to release report on Mass. immigration reform

Gov. Deval Patrick is set to release a report from a panel charged with making recommendations to him about a new state immigration policy.

The governor is set to release the report by the Advisory Council for Refugees and Immigrants on Tuesday. Patrick sent the panel around the state last year to come up with suggestions for the new policy.

Hundreds of residents and activists crowded meetings to press for such reforms as allowing undocumented immigrants to pay in-state college tuition and to apply for drivers licenses.

Last month, Patrick told reporters from ethnic media outlets that the panel’s report contains 131 recommendations. But he declined to detail any recommendations he planned to quickly implement.

He said some may require legislative action.
