NYPD:Arrest in Killing of Ecuadorean Immigrant
NYPD: Arrest in killing of Ecuadorean immigrant
2 hours ago
NEW YORK (AP) — Police in New York City say they have arrested one suspect in the deadly beating of an Ecuadorean immigrant attacked in a hate crime. They are looking for a second suspect.
Hakeem Scott was arrested Wednesday. Police say the 25-year-old is expected to be charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime on Thursday. No telephone number could be found for him, and police were unsure whether he has a lawyer.
A group of men attacked 31-year-old Jose Sucuzhanay (Soo-KOO'-suh-neye) on Dec. 7 while shouting anti-Hispanic and anti-gay slurs as he walked arm in arm with his brother in Brooklyn.
Police say the men smashed a beer bottle over the immigrant's head, hit him in the head with an aluminum baseball bat and kicked him.
His brother, Rommel Sucuzhanay, was able to get away and call police.
