Illegal immigrant jailed for Alamo drive-by shooting

A 25-year-old illegal immigrant is behind bars after being accused in a Monday morning drive-by shooting that left a Hidalgo County father in critical condition.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Jaime Jimenez for the incident on Monday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Jimenez was at the scene of a fight between a group of women off Cathy Lane south of Alamo.

Deputies said one of the women stabbed another woman there.

The men at the house became involved in a fight.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Jimenez was involved in the fight, took off in his truck and returned with a gun around 7 a.m Monday.

Jimenez opened fire and hit 41-year-old Gabriel Salazar leaving in him critical condition.

Deputies said Salazar was an innocent bystander who heard about the knife fight and was only there to check up on his son.

Investigators later located Jimenez, who allegedly told deputies he did the drive-by shooting because he was mad about the fight.

Jimenez appeared before Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace J.P. Espinoza on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said Jimenez has previous convictions for theft and robbery.

Deputies are also looking for the woman involved in the stabbing at the Cathy Lane home.

Investigator believe she is an illegal immigrant who fled to Mexico.
