Answered Call Leads To Jackson Hole Crash

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. (AP) ― An answered cell phone led to a crash, and possible deportation, for a man who authorities say also had two bags of marijuana in jail.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents picked up Gerardo Sanchez-Morales on Thursday, staff at the Teton County Jail said.

Sanchez-Morales told District Judge Nancy Guthrie that he stopped to answer his phone while at a stop light, hit the accelerator and crashed into another car Feb. 18. A day after his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, jail guards found Sanches-Morales with two bags of with marijuana.

He pleaded guilty Tuesday to bringing marijuana into the jail and was sentended to $160 in court costs and three years probation.
