BROWNSVILLE — Authorities linked Thursday’s dual homicide on in Olmito to Mexican drug cartels and consider the killings spillover violence.

The bodies of Omar Castillo Flores, 25, and Jose Guadalupe Lopez Perez, 38, were found inside a gray, bullet-riddled Dodge Ram pickup truck, Brownsville police spokesman Eddie Garcia said.

The truck had a Mexican license plate on the back bumper and Garcia identified both men as Mexican nationals.

Investigators recovered numerous shell casings of an unknown caliber from the crime scene along Farm-to-Market Road 511 in Olmito.

Justice of the Peace Linda Salazar said the truck the men were driving was shot from behind several times. Upon stopping in the median, the unknown assailants "finished them off," Salazar said.

Police discovered Friday morning a Chevrolet Silverado pickup with Tamaulipas plates that Garcia said was the vehicle driven by the suspected gunmen. The truck sat abandoned in a driveway near the intersection of Tree Line Avenue and Cedar Trail Avenue in Brownsville.

A person at the scene said crime scene investigators recovered a black glove similar to those used by tactical teams and military forces beside the suspected assailants’ truck.

Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia confirmed the information provided to The Brownsville Herald by Mexican law enforcement officials who said that one of the men killed is the younger brother of former Gulf Cartel members Alberto “Beto Fabeâ€
