EDINBURG — U.S. Border Patrol announced the seizure of 6,600 pounds of marijuana and 60 pounds of cocaine over a span of four days, with the seized narcotics having an estimated value of $7.2 million.
The largest of the seizures took place Saturday morning at the Sarita checkpoint when a man hauling a trailer with what appeared to be candy was found to be in possession of more than 2,300 pounds of marijuana.
Another large seizure took place near Escobares when agents on patrol saw several people carrying bundles as they walked away from the river. When the agents approached, the men dropped the bundles and ran into the brush leaving 630 pounds of marijuana behind.
