Nearly 3,000 pounds of marijuana have been seized in two busts at the Arizona border in the past 24 hours.

The larger of two busts took place Wednesday afternoon at the Nogales port of entry, said Brian D. Levin of the U.S. Office of Customs and Border Protection.

Officials found $1.8 million worth of marijuana among pallets of cucumbers after an X-ray inspection was made of a suspicious tractor-trailer, Levin said. No arrests have been made with that seizure.
The second bust took place this morning, again in Nogales, when officials decided to search a seemingly empty horse trailer, Levin said.

Nine hundred pounds of pot were found in a fake side wall of the trailer, Levin said.

Officials took the driver of the trailer, a 29-year-old United States citizen, into custody.

These two seizures bring the total amount of marijuana seized at the Nogales port of entry in the past two weeks to nearly 7,000 pounds.
